Set up mail on a phone or in a mail program

What you need

The server name does not depend on your address domain: it is the same on alpost.me, notabox.in and the rest.

Incoming mail (IMAP)

mail.alpost.ch : 993, SSL/TLS

Outgoing mail (SMTP)

mail.alpost.ch : 587, STARTTLS

User name

your full address, for example name@alpost.ch

Password

the same one you use on the site

iPhone and iPad

1. Settings → Apps → Mail → Accounts → Add Account → Other.
2. Choose Add Mail Account and enter your name, address and password.
3. When offered IMAP or POP, keep IMAP.
4. For both incoming and outgoing server enter mail.alpost.ch, and your full address as the user name.
5. Save. The phone picks ports and encryption itself; if asked, they are 993 and 587.

Android

1. In your mail app choose to add an account and pick Other or Personal (IMAP).
2. Enter the address and password, then choose the IMAP account type.
3. Incoming server — mail.alpost.ch, port 993, security SSL/TLS.
4. Outgoing server — mail.alpost.ch, port 587, security STARTTLS, sign-in required.

Thunderbird and Outlook

1. Enter your name, address and password and let the program try to detect the settings.
2. If it offers POP3, switch to IMAP: POP3 takes mail off the server, leaving nothing on your other devices.
3. Check that the ports are 993 and 587, with SSL/TLS and STARTTLS respectively.

If the program complains about the certificate

Make sure the server field says exactly mail.alpost.ch, with no imap. or mail. prefix in front of your own domain.

Our certificate is issued for that name. Any other spelling produces a mismatch, and the mail program refuses to connect — rightly so.
