How to share files
With another Alpost user — by the exact address of their mailbox, if they have opened Disk at least once. People cannot be searched by part of a name, and the user list is visible to nobody.
With a public link — for a single file up to 100 MB. A link lives 7 days and closes after 100 downloads; mailboxes older than 7 days can create links.
- programs, installers and disk images cannot be shared by public link
- neither can password-protected archives or archives we cannot check
- if a linked file is replaced with such content or renamed to a program, the link is removed
- every public page has a “Report abuse” button: after a justified complaint we remove the link, and the same file cannot be uploaded again
On your phone and computer
Calendar and contacts connect to your phone and mail app via CalDAV and CardDAV, files via WebDAV. Apps need a separate app password and a short login like u123: where to find them is shown in your account, in the Disk section.
What we are upfront about
- we make no backups: what you delete from the trash cannot be restored, so keep anything important somewhere else as well
- files are not encrypted with your key — otherwise previews and search would not work — so the server administrator could technically open them; we do not, and advertisers have no access at all
- space is shared with mail and website: when 1 GB is full, mail stops arriving and files stop uploading; we warn you by email at 80% and 95%
- Disk is deleted together with the mailbox, including under the 180-days-without-sign-in rule; using Disk, also through apps, counts as using the mailbox
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need a separate registration?
- No. Every mailbox on our shared domains has Disk: open disk.alpost.ch and sign in with the same address and password. If you are already signed in on the site, Disk opens straight away.
- How much space does Disk have?
- As much as is free of the shared 1 GB: mail, website and Disk share it. How much each part uses is shown in your account.
- Why can’t I create a public link?
- A link is possible only for a single file up to 100 MB, not for a program or a password-protected archive, and only for a mailbox older than 7 days. Disk tells you the reason with a notification under the bell at the top.
- Can I share a folder?
- With another Alpost user — yes. By public link — no: put the files into an archive without a password and share the archive.
- How do I connect the calendar to my phone?
- Create an app password on Disk and add a CalDAV account on your phone: server disk.alpost.ch, login — the short u-number from your account. Step by step — in the sync guide.
